The Story of Lara II
Andrew Long of Wellington built the original Lara before WWII of wood and went to war .
He came home after 6 years to find wood worm had ruined Lara.
Andrew wanted sail the world and adventure so he decided to build Lara II out of reinforced ferrocement. Plans were drawn and he started construction in 1968
14 years later Lara II was launched in 1982 in Wellington after an internal fitout which included mahogany purchased from the NZ Customs department . Lara II was twin masted with a Fordson motor and was built tough.
Lara II has a new 80hp motor and new rigging which is offshore capable ideal for the Cook Strait (one of the worlds toughest tests for any sailing yatch ) .
New electronics and safety gear have been installed as well as communications systems and a new duck board/ rear shower is planned for 2025.
Lara II is a very solid vessel . She is built to withstand anything worldwide iecapable of round the world voyaging . The Missen mast has been removed giving lots of space aft for enjoyment of the Hauraki Gulf in comfort.
Lara II sails/motors with a very easy motion ie She sits very well in the water
After her world cruise Andrew Long lived aboard until 78 years old in the Auckland region .
Now Pharmexa can share her with Cricketing groups / Other sports Groups or any group wanting an adventure . Pharmexa will raise funds for the development of Auckland Cricket players long term and Veterans Cricket.
